At Purscents, we know our actions impact the environment, so we’re committed to making choices that are right for our customers, our team, and the planet. Our journey is just beginning, and here are some of the small steps we’re taking on our sustainability journey:

In 2024, we calculated our carbon footprint for the very first time, an exciting first step.  Our total emissions for the year are 9,825.7 kgCO2.

THOUGHTFUL INGREDIENTS

We’re passionate about creating luxurious, nature-inspired scents - but doing it responsibly matters most. That’s why our candles are made with rapeseed and coconut wax, our reed diffusers use vegetable glycerin from renewable sources, and we only use 100% essential oils and plant extracts for scents.

While soy is popular in candle making, we’ve chosen not to use it, as it often has a high carbon footprint, risks pesticide residues, and contributes to deforestation and displacement of communities without proper safeguards.

THOUGHTFUL ABOUT WASTE

The ``circular economy`` is all about reusing, repairing, and recycling to cut down on waste and protect our planet - a big shift from the throwaway culture of make, use, and bin. With over 35 million candle jars ending up in landfill each year, imagine the impact if just 1% (around 350,000 jars) were reused!

At Purscents, we believe candle jars are made to last. That’s why we offer pre-scented refills in 100% compostable packaging, designed to work with any suitable jar. By reusing what we already have, we can reduce waste and the environmental cost of producing new containers.

THOUGHTFUL PROCESSES

Some of the steps we take to keep our emission Low:

• We use 100% renewable electricity matched with power generated from the sun and wind.
• Components sourced from Asia are repackaged locally to save space before they are shipped by sea or road.
• We aim to optimise box sizes and reuse paper void fill materials from supplier deliveries.

While some emissions come from suppliers beyond our full control, we always monitor how we’re doing and look for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and make our products more sustainable.

We believe in giving back to our community and supporting causes that reflect our core values.

We’re proud to partner with two amazing charities: The Felix Project and Environment360. These organisations tackle some of today’s most pressing issues, and we’re honoured to support them and highlight their vital work.

We’re committed to building a company that lives by its values, puts sustainability first, and creates a workplace where people love. From 2025, we're taking key steps towards Net Zero as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Enhanced Data Collection

We’re improving systems to track emissions and aim to work closely with our suppliers to understand the sustainability of key ingredients, where possible.

Waste Reduction

Our goal is to minimise waste by improving our manufacturing processes and recycling wherever we can.

Prioritising Local Suppliers

We will prioritise UK-based suppliers to reduce transport emissions, except when sourcing locally is not possible.

Cutting carbon emission year on year

Every year, we’ll work hard to cut our emissions, and from 2027, we’ll offset what remains by investing in certified carbon removal projects.
